Brov\u00e8s<\/b>\u00a0is a former\u00a0commune<\/a>\u00a0located in the\u00a0department<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a0Var<\/a>\u00a0at\u00a0region<\/a>\u00a0Provence-Alpes-C\u00f4te d'Azur<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The commune was abolished by a decree of 4 August 1970, at the time of the creation of the\u00a0Canjuers military camp<\/a>\u00a0and its main town has become an abandoned hamlet. The inhabitants of the village have been relocated to a new site built in the neighbouring commune of\u00a0Seillans<\/a>which now includes part of the former municipality of Brov\u00e8s.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Geography<\/span><\/h2>\n

The village is located on the\u00a0map of Canjuers<\/a>in the north-east of the department of\u00a0Var<\/a>about\u00a0840 metres<\/span>\u00a0at the bottom of the basin\u00a0endoreic<\/a>. It is located a few dozen metres from the departmental road 25 which links\u00a0Barg\u00e8me<\/a>\u00a0\u00e0\u00a0Bargemon<\/a>It is possible to drive on it but not to stop.<\/p>\n

Before it was abolished, the commune covered an area of 34.81\u00a0km2<\/sup><\/abbr>1<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n

History<\/span><\/h2>\n

Decided in 1963, the creation of the Canjuers camp led to the abolition of the municipality by a decree dated 4 August 1970. The town hall was closed on 10 August and the territory of the municipality of Brov\u00e8s was attached to that of\u00a0Seillans<\/a>2<\/a><\/sup>. The village was gradually evacuated and abandoned in 1974.3<\/a><\/sup>. The post office was closed for good on 31 May 1974, and the village telephone booth was shut down on the same date (Bulletin R\u00e9gional des T\u00e9l\u00e9communications Provence - C\u00f4te d'Azur - Corse\u00a0no<\/sup><\/abbr>\u00a062 of 20 May 1974). The inhabitants were rehoused in a hamlet called Brov\u00e8s-en-Seillans, built further down the valley in the Seillans area. Access to the village has since been closed to the public, as has the entire camp. The former inhabitants of the village are allowed to return once a year, on Whit Monday, to share a picnic.4<\/a><\/sup>. The village's tiled roofs have been replaced by red sheet metal.<\/p>\n
