Brovès is a former commune located in the department from Var at region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
The commune was abolished by a decree of 4 August 1970, at the time of the creation of the Canjuers military camp and its main town has become an abandoned hamlet. The inhabitants of the village have been relocated to a new site built in the neighbouring commune of Seillanswhich now includes part of the former municipality of Brovès.
Geography
The village is located on the map of Canjuersin the north-east of the department of Varabout 840 metres at the bottom of the basin endoreic. It is located a few dozen metres from the departmental road 25 which links Bargème à BargemonIt is possible to drive on it but not to stop.
Before it was abolished, the commune covered an area of 34.81 km21.
History
Decided in 1963, the creation of the Canjuers camp led to the abolition of the municipality by a decree dated 4 August 1970. The town hall was closed on 10 August and the territory of the municipality of Brovès was attached to that of Seillans2. The village was gradually evacuated and abandoned in 1974.3. The post office was closed for good on 31 May 1974, and the village telephone booth was shut down on the same date (Bulletin Régional des Télécommunications Provence - Côte d'Azur - Corse no 62 of 20 May 1974). The inhabitants were rehoused in a hamlet called Brovès-en-Seillans, built further down the valley in the Seillans area. Access to the village has since been closed to the public, as has the entire camp. The former inhabitants of the village are allowed to return once a year, on Whit Monday, to share a picnic.4. The village's tiled roofs have been replaced by red sheet metal.
